Kensho-Ryu Warwick, RI
Kensho-Ryu Warwick, is family owned and operated. We aspire to make your family apart of our family. The martial arts journey can and should be a family experience. One that can last a lifetime. Aside from promoting physical exercise. Self-confidence, skill and agility, your martial arts experience can be valuable time spent with your family, sharing in the rich culture of Kensho-Ryu kenpo.
Our Style
Kensho-Ryu, is a unique and versatile martial art - a system that utilizes traditional and modern training methods. The Kensho-Ryu practitioner uses the rounded fluid motions of Chinese Kung Fu, the focused energy displacement of jujitsu and the hard linear strikes of Japanese Karate in order to implement self-defense techniques, form exercises and free-fighting combinations.
It is the intention of the grand masters' lineage that the system remain fluid and street effective. All training in Kensho-Ryu, is taught with an eye on giving the practitioner the means of defending themselves in the street. Mass attack with both open hand and weapons is the emphasis of advanced training. In addition, Kensho Ryu is a complete Kobudo system with emphasis on Okinawan and Japanese weaponry including the bo, kama, sai, tonfa, ekku, nunchaku, bokken, katana, naginata, koboton and yari. Extensive self defense training against knife, club, gun and improvised weaponry is the focus of the modern weapons training.
Affiliations

Our Kids
Kensho-Ryu Kenpo Family Karate Center is not your typical martial arts studio. We take great interest in our students and celebrate all their accomplishments with them. They become a part of our martial arts family. Some of the things that make KSR-Warwick a unique place to train include:
For our children, we offer a karate dollar program. Each class, one student is awarded a karate dollar for best exhibiting the five principles of conduct-effort, etiquette, sincerity, character, and self-control. Additionally, students receive karate dollars for good reports from home, bringing friends to class, and good report cards. The karate dollars are "worth" fifty cents, and can be redeemed for anything for sale at the dojo. We offer display cases full of fun toys to purchase with karate dollars. We believe this system encourages students to work hard and strive for excellence. It also teaches children the discipline of saving "money" and earning things for themselves.
At KSR-Warwick, we name a Student of the Month each month based on attendance, class participation, reports from parents and teachers, and outside practice. The outside practice sheet can be downloaded, completed, and turned in or blank forms are available at the dojo. Each year, we host a Christmas Banquet in which our families enjoy fellowship, food, and watching some of our students receive awards for their work and dedication to the martial arts.
During the summer months, KSR-Warwick hosts "theme weeks." For each class that a student attends, they receive a "treat" upon leaving, based on the theme of the week. Examples of themes in the past have been watermelon, bubblegum, hoodsie cups, popsicles, lollipops, and pudding. We end our summer months with an annual open house-complete with a bouncy house, food, and fun. We also conduct our annual Kick-A-Thon for St. Judes Children's Research Hospital during this event.
